Character
Name: Kamui (Corrin's Japanese name and fanon Hoshidan name)
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Canon: Fire Emblem Fates
Canon Point: Post-Birthright

History: Kamui's history is specifically from Birthright. His personality won't include twists or plot points from Revelations since it throws the already shaky conflict between two warring countries out the window. Seriously, it's dumb.

Personality: One of Kamui's most defining traits is his compassion. When he meets someone, he sincerely tries to get to know them and help them with their problems in any way he can (as long as the situation allows for this). His kindness goes as far back as his childhood, when he found a small, injured bird and nursed it back to health. Spending most of his life in near isolation in the Northern Fortress made him incredibly sociable, adoring those who would spend time with him and almost craving the company of others to combat the feeling of loneliness.

Fortunately, all of this time being cooped up in a fortress left Kamui plenty of time for his training and his studies. He's very intelligent and courteous, adopting a polite way of speaking and making regular use of apologies whenever he feels he made a mistake or upset someone. Training sessions between the respected knight Gunter and his older brother Xander have shaped him into a capable warrior as well; despite this, Kamui remains humble about his abilities. Often times, he's looking for ways to improve himself, knows that there are others better than him at other tasks and willing to ask for their counsel when he needs it. As a fast learner, the task is rarely a challenge for him.

Kamui's modesty has its drawbacks, however. There are times when he struggles with his self worth and holds himself accountable for when things go wrong. The fateful decision of choosing between his Nohrian family and Hoshidan family is one that affects all iterations of Corrin. For Kamui, choosing his Hoshidan family meant betraying the family he grew up with with and the resulting heartache and deaths of his loved ones stem from that. While the situation that forced the decision wasn't his fault, it's still a thought that haunts him.

Questions of his self worth stemmed from his traumatic childhood; not only was Kamui forbidden from leaving the Northern Fortress, but his adoptive father, King Garon, treated him like a prisoner and would practically starve him. The few people he kept contact with, including his servants and his siblings, made up for the blatant neglect displayed towards him. It's through their efforts that he was able to grow into a gentle soul and learn to care for others as much as he does; the sparks of kindness through all he endured made it all worthwhile, encouraging him to pay it forward whenever it can.

The above mentioned traits apply to almost every iteration of Corrin; the greatest differences between them are in deciding which family to side with, if either. Kamui's decision to side with Hoshido stems from the great injustice dealt to him by King Garon when he was brought to his birth home. Garon used Kamui to assassinate Queen Mikoto, his mother, and attack Hoshidan civilians. For this crime, he refused to return home, despite his Nohrian siblings begging him to change his mind. He grows a righteous indignation towards those who would use people so ruthlessly and care so little for human life, including Garon and his close subordinates. Even though he regularly looks back and wishes both of his families could resolve their differences, he accepts choosing Hoshido because it meant he doesn't tolerate evil. Xander once told him he would be the bright light that shines over the darkened country of Nohr; while Kamui is too humble to take that to heart, it's a theme that runs through his time in the Birthright storyline.

Because Birthright has Kamui spending more time around his birth family, he took after them during the war. Most prominently, he took after his mother, Queen Mikoto. Hoshido made many efforts to try and steal their prince back from Nohr, but she took no pleasure in taking life from others. Through her power, Hoshido's greatest defense was a barrier that did not harm Nohrians who crossed it, but instead sapped their will to fight. This, paired with Kamui wishing to put a stop to King Garon without fighting his Nohrian siblings or even Nohrian soldiers, inspired him to resort to pacifism whenever possible. He will fight with all his being when absolutely necessary, but will always try and take the most peaceful, least violent option first.

His wish for diplomatic solutions reached its peak when Kamui was forced to cross paths with his siblings, especially Xander. As the next in line for Nohr's throne, Xander had no choice but to act in accordance with his country. Though he couldn't side with his younger brother despite his heart aching to do so, he forced Kamui to prove his resolve in battle. In the end, the younger brother was forced to strike down Xander in order to put a stop to Garon's evil intentions. It pained him greatly to do so, especially when they spoke after the fact. Both Xander and Elise state that Kamui grew not just as a person, but as a natural leader. His compassion for those around him, enemy and ally alike, and the willpower to stand up to evil, even if familiar faces stand in his way.

Kamui remains a sweet, kindhearted man even though he endured a war with himself as the spark. With his never ending quest to improve himself brings both the occasional disparaging thought of his ineptitude and the humility to know that there's always room for improvement. He will always seek a peaceful solution first with those who can be negotiated with, but has almost zero tolerance against injustices and those who freely commit them. Against those types of people, those who disregard human lives and revel in others' suffering, Kamui will show no mercy. Still, he maintains his kindness towards others, especially anyone he gets to know personally. While this and his priority towards diplomacy make it easy to believe he's naive (and to a certain extent, he is), they're also, as his brother Leo says, what make him a natural leader.

Kamui returns home from a busy day of questing, doing his part to scare off a few Bombs that were getting too close to the Curti Center. Despite a few close calls, no one got hurt (at least, nothing that couldn't be cured), so he considers it a successful day. With a sigh of relief, he can settle in for the day, take a nice shower to wash off the sweat from his questing and....immediately make his way to his desk after he's nice and dry.

This is a fact that still surprises his moogle, Anastasia, who can't help hovering over Kamui as he jumps right into reading a book. “Seriously? Do you ever rest, kupo?”

“Certainly! Rest is an important part of any sort of training, whether it's practice or getting experience out in the field.”

“And cramming your nose in a book's relaxing to you, kupo?”

“Well, yes. I've spent quite a lot of time busying myself with any book I could find, back home. Living in the Fortress all my life meant I went through the entire library faster than I would've liked. It was what I had and I appreciate it making those days easier for me...but I suppose you're confused about the habit more than anything else.”

“Yeah! Most people would just...sit back and browse their iMogs, kupo! Take a nap, soak in the tub, not...give themselves more work.”

“It's...force of habit, I suppose. It was always important to keep up with my studies. The reason I continue it is because there's always room for improvement. Something new to learn...and I feel that applies now more than ever, with an entire new world to explore and study. Just as there is a hard-earned peace in my world, one was very recently acquired in this one. I'm sure there are relief efforts in effect and what to do after this 'Bahamut' nearly destroyed everything. Why would he do such a thing? Has he no compassion for others?! I have seen too many individuals like--”

Kamui catches himself. “...I apologize, Anastasia; I'm getting off topic. My point is: I refuse to let up on my studies and my practice because it is what I'm most used to. And with this much to learn, I want to research everything I can so that I may be a better Warrior of Light.”

Anastasia silently listens to all of this, waiting for Kamui to finish. Once he's done, the moogle will go and boop him on the nose. “You're a big dork, kupo. I like you, but maybe don't be so hard on yourself? You can't get all of your smarts from books!”

“I suppose you're right. Very well; what do you say we try things your way tomorrow? I'd like to know what you'd do with your free time, Anastasia...or at the very least, what you would suggest I do instead.”

“Good! Then we're waking up bright and late at 2PM tomorrow, kupo!”

“Wh-what?!”

Vaikuntha
Moogle Name: Anastasia
Moogle Gender: Female

First Job: Red Mage
Second Job: Wizard
Melody: Dragonform. Kamui transforms into his water dragon self and gains increased physical stats as well as a dark breath weapon. It only lasts two turns and he's weak to anti-dragon attacks for the duration. Without a dragonstone in his possession, he runs the risk of going berserk, but having one would allow him full control of himself.
